HAPPY NEW YEARS EVE!!!

   This is the last post of 2013!  It has been a great year! And I'm looking forward to an even better year to come.

I just want to share a couple highlights.  The first being my new blog site.  I am so excited to have started this site.  I so love to take old things from before and make them into something new so the old is not more:).  For instance

this beautiful bench or coffee table or TV console.

 

That project got my creative juices flowing and things took off from there.

 

Another, more recent project is my barstools to sofa table.

 

These are just a couple of things this year.  But I do have one more new post for 2013.

 

A Love Story

 

As you know by now I am a member of Irontribe, an awesome gym that I work out in. One of my coaches, Chandler, asked me to think of an idea for his girlfriend for Christmas.  I told him to send me some pictures of them and I will think of something.  In the meantime, I told him to write her a love letter.  The kind of letter that comes from the heart, in his own handwriting.  He loved that idea.

Mean while, I went home and started thinking of the project.

 

I had selected the picture I wanted to use, but not exactly how I was going to use it. 

 

I cropped it and printed it off in black and white.  I had an idea to transfer it using a transfer medium onto a board along with the words live, laugh, love, with you always.

 

 

I had this old cabinet door in my garage.  I painted it with Annie Sloan Old White paint.  I tried to transfer the photo using the gel medium method.  It was a disaster.  Although the method worked perfectly for the words.  I ended up using Mod Podge to attach the photo.  It worked out well.  I added the wood corner pieces, and built a little frame to frame out the picture.  I then distressed, light and dark waxed the entire piece.

 

 

 

Here is the finished product. 

 

He told me when he gave the gift to his girlfriend, she cried.

I'm sure the love letter had something to do with it as well.

Corn Hole Boards.

Happy Conference Championship Football Saturday Y'all! I hope your teams won today.  I know mine did!  Whoop! Whoop!  WAR EAGLE!!!

  Remember when I said stay tuned for the reveal of the completed corn holes?  Well here it is.  I will be showing you what my friend decided she wanted her boards painted.  First, just a little info on how I built it.  Here is where I got the instructions. http://www.cornholehowto.com/build-them-boards/dimensions/

This picture shows the 2'x4' piece of plywood and cut 2"x4" boards to make the box.

                  Here I cut a six inch hole with my jig saw. ( Not so bad for my first time cutting a hole.)

Here are the two, unpainted and completed boards.  Sooooooo....

Drum roll please!

 

Ta Dah! My friend, Judi, is a huge Alabama fan and this is how she wanted the boards painted!

I love them!  I have to give them a big ROLL TIDE!

Evening Y'all!!

  I know I am posting late in the evening, but I have had an awesomely, busy day!  Because ot the rainy, wet and cold day here, I have had a great time crafting.

  Remember the earlier post about the Corn Hole boards?  Well, I am in the process of painting them.  And while waiting for the paint to dry, I decided to spruce up this cute little stool.

  I acquired this stool from the yard sale that I held at my house for Granny's friend.  It doesn't look bad the way it is, but it is a bit dated.  The fabric has a vintage 1776 motif and the wood is very dark.

 

Here is a view from the side.  Sorry for the quality.  I am using a camera phone.  I'm hoping Santa will bring me a nice camera for Christmas.......

 

 

I took the cushion off of the stool and recovered it.  

 I went to http://thegraphicsfairy.com/ and chose a free print from her website.  She has so many wonderful prints to choose from.

 

Here I transferred the print to the fabric. 

 

 

 

I then covered the cushion with it.

 

After covering the cushion, I painted the legs with Annie Sloan Louis Blue.  For some reason, I am on a Louie Blue kick.  It is a great winter blue color and I plan on using it to do some winter crafts.

After I painted the legs with Louie I dry brushed on some Old White and distressed it some.  After that, I added light and dark wax.  I love the way it turned out!

 

I'm not sure what I am going to  do with this little guy. 

I am bursting with so many ideas about changes in my house.

And I am so excited about sharing them with you!

Hey Y'all!

  It's a dreary Saturday here which makes for a great day for projects!  And boy do I have a lot of them to complete.

  For those of you that have a Facebook account, have you ever been on a local trading site? That is a site developed for your area to buy and sell items.  There are hundreds of them out there.  I happen to belong to one that has over 30,000 members!  YES, I said,30,0000 members!!!  So, if you post something for sale on this site it has the potential for 30,000 people to see it.  And all of those people are in my area!

   Well I was perusing the site one day and found these drawers on there for cheap!  So I bought three.

                                                        They all three look like this.

 

This one had the corners roughed up so I sanded them smooth.

 

 

After I sanded the drawer, I cut a shelf to go inside.

I painted the whole drawer and shelf and then applied some fabric to the back of it.

After I applied the fabric, I attached the shelf. 

I left the drawer pull on for added interest.

 

This will look nice in my daughter's bathroom.

 

This was a simple and fast project done from a drawer I found on the trading site.

So, if you want to see if there are any trading sites in your area, go to the search box on your page and type in the name of your city, (ie: Pikeville) and something like trading or yard sale.  Pikeville trading, or Pikeville Yard sale.  Try it to see if you have something and if not, then start your own.  It's not difficult.

Good Morning Y'all!

I just got back from my Irontribe work out and will be getting back to the corn holes.  I am ready to fill holes and sand so I can paint them.

 

My daughter, Emily, and her boyfriend Brad are both college students. Brad and his family are big football fans and tailgaters.  They have a house in Tuscaloosa that they party at before the games.  Family fun includes the corn hole toss game.  They had a set but it wasn't sturdy enough to stand the enthusiasm of four boys and their friends so I am making them another one.

 

Stay tuned to how the boards will be painted.  Right now I need a little more coffee then off to the holes!

Welcome to Before No More where I like to find existing pieces to repurpose, or build or paint a piece to create a the Before No More!

Here is the first piece that I changed.

I bought this piece at a church garage sale or $10!

My mother-in-law, Edwina, aka Granny, and I loaded it up and took it to her house.

My father-in-law, Lee, aka Pappa, has all the tools.

We used a jig saw and cut off the top 3/4 of the piece.

We also removed the right side door because the other one was broken.

We took the top piece and attached it to the bottom to make this.

 

You can see here where we added a piece of plywood to the back.

 

Here is the finished product!  I painted the whole thing with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White and light and heavy dark waxed it.  I add some baskets for interest.

I was so excited to do this.  It has really inspired me to do more,

Which means it is time to get my own tools!
